Traditionally it fell outside the LAU's minimum duration. Since 8 October 2026, Real Decreto-ley 29/2026 treats it as a ‘temporary housing’ lease: the contract must state a real, provable temporary reason, last more than 31 days and generally no more than 12 months. Without a genuine reason it is treated as an ordinary tenancy. The decree was pending confirmation by Congress as of 16 October 2026.
